Absolutely ! If you intend to create original designs and not infringe on our Copyrights or any other Stencil Company's Copyrights, we would be happy to sell you the Mylar and tools to cut your own stencils . But we are sure what you will soon find is that you have not saved money as Hand Cutting is difficult, very time consuming and its not easy to come up with original designs.
Its also important to note that if you plan on making your own stencils for resale purposes or to use in the painting of products for resale, YOU MUST obtain a commercial license for each and every font or clip art image you use, even if you already have the fonts and images on your home computer. Personal Use License Agreements are for your own personal use, not to use for resale items.
Downloading a font for personal use as compared to Commercial use is NOT the same thing and heavy fines and penalties can apply by law if you are found to be using fonts for resale items that are not properly licensed to you. When you purchase a font you agree to a license before you are allowed to download the font. This license is a binding legal contract between you and the font company. If you abuse the license and break the contract, the font company can and will sue you. They need to protect their copyright.
We would be remiss if we did not mention Free Font Websites at this time. Not all fonts found on free font websites and file sharing websites such as Lime Wire, are there with the permission of the Font Foundries who own them. Just because you find a "FREE" font does not give you a commercial license to use it. In the last few years, font companies have started digitally embedding their fonts so they can identify the license whenever they need to. This is not something you see by eye and is there to help enforce any legal action the Font Company or Clip Art Company may choose to seek against you. By law, it is your responsibility to contact the rightful owner of the font to obtain proper licensing. In 2008 Font Piracy has become a huge concern and copying fonts holds the same penalty by law as copying movies illegally.We have all seen the FBI warning at the beginning of every movie and DVD we watch..... Seriously, respect Font Foundries and license your fonts its not worth going to jail over!
Can Anyone Learn to stencil?
Absolutely!! By following the steps on our "Tips & Tricks" page and sheet included with each order, anyone can make projects using our primitive sign and shape stencils
Can I use my stencil more than once?
Absolutely! All of our stencils are made from high quality Laser Pro Mylar. With cleaning and proper flat storage, a Yankee Stencil Company Stencil will last many uses and years to come.
Are your stencils cut by hand?
Our stencils are Professionally Laser Cut. All of our stencils are designed by skilled artists right here at Yankee Stencil Company. Hopefully you will not find our designs for sale elsewhere. What we do is truly a skilled craft combining Laser technology and artistic skill to create the best Primitive Sign Stencils in the market place today. We do not claim to be the "original" stencil company, but we do claim to be the best!

How Do I properly clean and care for my stencils ?
Rubbing Alcohol is great for cleaning stencils after each use. Another great product we have discovered at Yankee Stencil Company, is "Painter's Pal" another great product from the company who also makes "Goo Be Gone". Simply spray the Painters Pal on your stencil and rinse, its that easy. You can find this product at most Hardware stores and Wal-Marts.
Never use any abrasives on your stencils that could scratch the surface or tear your bridges. .
What should I do if a stencil gets torn or damaged?
Scotch tape works for quick repair and will add longer life to your stencil for many extra uses ! If the the stencil tears due to a defect on our part, we will immediately replace your stencil for you.
What type of paint is best for stencilling?
Really, you can use any kind of paint to stencil. Its a personal preference. Many of our customers like to use acrylic craft paints commonly sold in 2 oz bottles. Flat Latex house paint also works great for stenciling and painting signs too. The least common choice seems to be oil paints, while they give a very nice traditional look to signs, the downside is the paint takes a few days to dry.
What is the Best Stencil Brushs to use for Sign Stencils?
We get the best results using a natural bristle stencil brush. Mostly we prefer a 3/8" brush, but for detailing a smaller brush, such as 1/4" will be much easier to handle. There are also Stencil Sponges on the market, but personally, the above brushes are our choice for a traditional stencil finish.
What if I want a stencil that I designed myself or not currently for sale in your store?
Because of the fact our Stencils Are Laser Cut here at our facilities, we are very flexible in meetings customers needs. We would be glad to work with you to design a custom stencil that you are happy with. Phrase stencils or shapes, our motto is... "If You Can Say "it" you can stencil It!"
We will be glad to work with you and offer you choices in final designs to meet your needs. If you require a shape stencil, we will be glad to make suggestions, or work with black and white pictures that you can send us by e-mail or fax. THIS IS A LEGAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN YOU, THE PURCHASER, AND YANKEE STENCIL COMPANY, WHEN YOU PURCHASE A STENCIL FROM THIS WEBSITE AT
WWW.YANKEESTENCIL.COM OR ANY OTHER VENUE OFFERING OUR STENCILS FOR SALE; YOU ARE AGREEING TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT, PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE OUR STENCILS. This agreement supersedes all prior agreements, proposals, and representations between you and Yankee Stencil Company.
1. GRANT OF LICENSE. Yankee Stencil Company grants you the right to use your stencils purchased from us for hobby or commercial purpose. You may use our stencils to in the production of signs and products for resale. Our stencils may not be used in mass reproduction and a seperate EULA must be purchased if you plan to have product manufactured overseas using our designs.
2. OWNERSHIP AND COPYRIGHT. The STENCIL design is owned by Yankee Stencil Company and is licensed to you. It is not sold. The STENCIL is also protected by United States copyright laws. You must treat the STENCIL like any other copyright protected material (e.g., a book or musical recording). You may not copy or reproduce the STENCIL in any manner whatsoever. You may not rent, lease or lend the STENCIL.
3. LIMITED WARRANTY. Yankee Stencil Company warrants that the STENCIL is free of defects in material and workmanship. If you return any of the stencils covered by this warranty to the place you obtained it within 30 days of shipment, Yankee Stencil Company, or its dealer will replace the STENCIL without charge. This is your only remedy for breach of warranty. You assume all risks with respect to the accuracy, quality, reliability and performance of the STENCIL and accompanying materials. Any implied warranties are limited to 30 days. Some states & provinces' do not allow limitations on duration of an applied warranty, so the above limitation may not apply to you.
4. NO LIABILTIY FOR CONSEQUEMTIAL DAMAGES. In no event shall Yankee Stencil Company, or its suppliers be liable for any damages whatsoever (including, without limitation, damages for loss of business profits, business interruption, loss of business information, or other pecuniary loss) arising out of the use or inability to use the STENCIL, even if Yankee Stencil Company has been advised of the possibility of such damages. Because some states and provinces do not allow the exclusion or limitation of liability for consequential or incidental damages, the above limitation may not apply to you.
5. NO OTHER WARRANTIES OR REMEDIES. Yankee Stencil Company disclaims all other warranties and remedies, either expressed or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose with respect to the STENCIL and the accompanying written materials. This limited warranty gives you specific legal rights. You may have others, which vary depending on the country which you reside.
6. DISPUTES. This agreement is governed by the laws of the State New Hampshire, U.S.A and is enforceable by Yankee Stencil Company and/or their distributors and dealers. Disputes will be resolved by arbitration under American Arbitration Association Rules of Arbitration with one arbitrator and conducted at Yankee Stencil Company's discrection in the state of New Jersey. The prevailing party in any action brought in connection with an alleged infringement of Yankee Stencil Company proprietary rights will be entitled to recover its costs and expenses, including attorneys fees.
